Kurt Gornek

Kurt started 2 Brothers Hobby, along with his brother Rob, as a resource for all model flight enthusiasts to learn about the hobby, connect with manufacturers, and ultimately connect with each other. With a background in executive business management and a life-long passion for RC flight, Kurt has a genuine interest in all things aviation. If Kurt's not attending one of the many industry trade shows, or in his shop building the latest model for review, he's probably got his nose stuck in an aviation book or is lost on the internet in search of ways to improve and grow the 2Bfly and RC Flight Source experience.

  • New adhesives from BSI

We caught up with Charlee Smith of Bob Smith Industries (BSI) last week about their latest adhesive products and offerings. If you’re not familiar with the name BSI, there’s a good chance you have a bottle of their adhesives in your shop at this very moment. BSI sells their adhesives in over 1,500 hobby shops nationwide with the hobby shop’s label on the front. That’s right, if the bottle label looks familiar it’s because BSI adhesives are everywhere and for good reason. Continue reading

  • Thunder Tiger Raptor G4 E720 FBL Review

The Raptor name is steeped in RC helicopter history. With a change in North American distributorship and the release of a fresh wave of new helicopters, Thunder Tiger is once again making a strong push in the competition heli market. 2012 saw Thunder Tiger team pilot Nick Maxwell win XFC with his Raptor G4. Kurt and Rob grabbed one and set to the task of getting under the hood of this redesigned predator to see what’s really going on under the hood. Continue reading

  • SAB Goblin 630 Review

SAB Heli Division’s Goblin helicopters entered the scene in a big way last year. Not only did they appear with a comprehensive, competition-class platform but they also introduced their own innovations like a unique drive transmission and structural tail booms. Add to that the cross-platform integration of DFC (Direct Flight Control) head designs and one look at a Goblin made you aware that this was a different animal. When we saw the Goblins at the 2012 IRCHA Jamboree, we immediately knew this was one platform we just had to test. Join us as we get to know the Goblin 630 and unveil our large format 5X5 heli scoring format… Continue reading

  • 2013 E-Fest

Kurt and Rob headed over to the Track and Field Armory at the University of Illinois for the 2013 E-Fest event, hosted by Hobbico. This year’s turnout was fantastic with a packed house on Saturday. Like being a kid at an amusement park, it’s hard to take it all in. With air races, 3D flight, helicopters, manufacturer’s new products, and an always amazing static R/C model display, you have to keep your head on a swivel so you don’t miss the next amazing thing. Continue reading

  • LiPos can blow off your fingertips

It was brought to my attention by the Academy of Model Aeronautics that an article recently published by the The Washington Post was drawing parallels between Boeing’s 787 “Dreamliner” Lithium-ion fires and the dangers of our LiPo hobby packs. The article, titled “Model plane hobbyists know the risks of Lithium-ion batteries” informs consumers about the lurking danger of Lithium batteries burning down your house, exploding your mobile phone, stealing food from your fridge and running up your credit card bill. Well, the last one may be partially true but since we don’t use Lithium-ion batteries, our pint of Cherries Jubilee is safe…for the moment. Continue reading

  • Ares Ethos QX 75 Nano-Micro Quad Review

Quadcopters have permeated the hobby industry by force over the last few years. It’s only natural that we see tiny versions of these flying machines appear from top-rated manufacturers. We’ve tested and flown a number of larger quads outdoors, but having something you can fly both indoors and out makes for some exciting winter flying fun! Continue reading
